ADVENTIST COMMUNITY SERVICES (ACS) PARTNERS WITH 93.3 KOBFM ALBUQUERQUE TO STUFF A TRUCK FOR HURRICAN IKE SURVIVORS ALONG THE GULF COAST OF TEXAS & LOUISANA
CORRALES, NEW MEXICO – Local Albuquerque, NM, radio station 93.3 KOBFM partnered with ACS in their Stuff A Truck appeal Wednesday 17th to lunchtime Friday 19th September for the survivors of Hurricane Ike in Texas and Louisiana. John Forseythe presenter, Katie Fitter & Leah Black co-presenters on the morning radio breakfast show came up with the idea of challenging their listeners to help the hurricane survivors. Everything was donated. Within an hour after kicking off the campaign, they had an eighteen wheel truck, driver, tractor unit and prominent parking space outside Smith’s supermarket at the intersection of Menaul and Carlisle in Albuquerque. Donations of personal items, food and even pet food began to flood in.
On Thursday and Friday, ACS provided the expertise to pack the truck and sort all of the donations for useful distribution.
Listeners brought the following types of donations:
1. Toys
2. Towels & Linens
3. Food
4. Animal products/ Food
5. Water
6. Diaper/ Adult/ Baby Wipes
7. Kitty Litter Box
8. Household items
9. Bathroom & Toiletries (Shampoo, Soap and Deodorant etc)
10. Accessories
11. Baby Food
12. Misc Clothes
13. Drinks
Further cash donations will be forwarded by the Radio Station to ACS TX in order to purchase additional items.
A BIG thank you is needed for the following organizations, which came out to help:
1. Three Angels Adventist Church
2. East Mountain Pathfinders
3. East Mountain Adventist Church
4. Sandia View Elementary School
5. Metro Adventist Church
6. Rio Grande Adventist Church
7. Rio Rancho Adventist Church
8. Crestview Elementary School
9. Sandia View Academy
10. Corrales Adventist Church
We also want to thank volunteers who on both days just walked up and volunteered to help!
We registered 32 adults or high school students and 47 elementary students.
ACS Disaster Response (ACS DR) is a national organization serving in times of disaster across the US. The people who serve do so because of their love for people. ACS has national agreements with FEMA and was a founding member of National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (NVOAD).
Individuals and groups that want to donate things other than cash to disaster relief are urged to dial 1-800-381-7171 for the national ACS Hotline or 1-800-749-7851 for the local New Mexico regional donation line.
What kinds of donated goods are needed? Canned food, baby diapers, cleaning supplies, personal comfort items (Toothpaste, soap, etc.), baby food, can openers, flashlights, batteries, blankets, and kitchen equipment.
